We went with Hope Estates as it was recommended by the university-big mistake. We moved into our house, after several emails the previous month had been sent to Hope Estates, listing problems with the house. These ranged from damp and slug trails, to missing furniture, to broken windows, beds, desks, to missing drainage pipes. Upon arrival in October, none of these had been sorted, and so after contact with Karen (receptionist), who promised that workmen would come out and fix the problems the following morning, they didn't show. After several trips to Hope Estate to find out why the maintenance men hadn't fixed the problems, she couldn't do anything about it as both Gary and Nick Swift (in charge of Hope Estates) were on holiday. We also had a carbon monoxide scare, and had to get the Durham environmental authorities to check the house. Would NOT recommend this estate agents to anyone. They have taken on too many properties, and as such don't care about each property or their tenants. Have made formal complaints to the estate agents, but the union have been brilliant, advising us with what to do next. Also, we opted for bills included-don't do it, the wireless is so slow it is unusable.

We rented from Hope Estates and have no complaints. Any problems we had with our house were sorted quickly and we would have no problem renting from them again. Maybe the reviewer below was unlucky, but we had a bill inclusive package and the broadband was good and some of our friends had a Hope Estates house as well and they had no complaints with their broadband either.
